I dunno, I'd take it in and get an alignment. You don't want to ruin your tires. Years ago, I took my Chevelle to Hoover off of E. Hennepin by 35W. Since it was part of a family business with Tom Hoover Racing back then, I thought I'd give them my business.

Made it back up to BIR for the SS/FR. Had a ton of fun. Car ran good, not what I wanted but low 13.80's was better than the 14.50's from last year.

What MPH did you run? That tell the story if you made more power. ET is a matter of hooking up.

Went 13.80 at 96mph and last year went 14.53 at 92mph. Need some different valve springs. 5000 rpm and the valves started to hang open. 60' were 1.88 to 1.92's. I learned a lot this weekend with it. Cant wait to keep playing with it.

Do not take this to be mean as I am only tring to help you get to your goal to be in the 12's. With that said a car that goes 96 mph will not attain that 12 sec. ET, Now here are some tips to help you.

No.1 What kind of mufflers are you running? as some are MPH and HP killers sometimes. I had some sonic turbo mufflers on the Camaro one time and the car right off the trailer went 13.34, I took the pipes and mufflers off and the car went 12.39 and picked up 10 mph. True story.
No.2 What carb are you running? if it's a VS sometimes they do not open well and hurts the MPH.

Even at 5K the car should still ET and MPH, Maybe less than max but should still be in the 12's.

The setup you have should be able to make around 115 mph easy. Something is not right if the car only goes 96 mph. Spinning the tires does not change mph much, just hurts your ET. The 60ft. times are not bad and that is about the same as my Camaro and I have just got a 355 and it goes 113 to 115 mph with the old setup, so that's why I do think something is wrong. Need some help let me know.

Thanks for the info and don't worry about it. Any info is knowledge!

It is just a little stock 325hp/396 2 bolt block with L88 alum heads with the stock valve springs off a set of closed chamber heads on them and a small 500 lift cam.
Maybe these heads are too much for the motor.
Every pass 5k came quick and with 3:55's in the rear end I was really pushing it through the traps. Anything passed 5k the motor was breaking up like the valves were hanging open.

                This was a 13.83 and 96mph

Thanks guys for the input. KCCO

Ahh, Now I see. I thought you had a 454 in the car, my bad. Ya the heads are a little big but then when you go to a car show it will look very cool. If you need and help just ask.

Yeah all the time slip numbers look good till 1/8 mile and then i'm at 5k in high gear with nothing left in the motor to run through the 1/4? Also did some digging on what cam is in it and found the cam card. It's a 396/350 HP speed-pro replacement. .461/.480 lift. Whats your suggestions? Play with the 396? Cam, valve springs and lifters?(I have some ideas) or just yank the heads off and toss them on a bigger cubic inch motor? It's nice to hear some input other than my dads input. Sorry dad.

I think Bob had the same trouble a while back with his camaro, he said the valve springs were suppost to be at 1.75 and the springs were at 1.85 or something like that.

Motor set backs aside I still had lots of fun @ BIR, learning how to go fast on the strip is just part of it. I'll take the experience and build on it.

                              Starter help

I picked up this mini starter and it needs a drive gear but I'm confused. The drive gear or bendix is more like a housing unit on the shaft?

Not really sure where or if i can find parts for it. Was told it was a summit part?

That's a different starter drive that I am used to looking at.
