Motor is out and still debating on a cam. Helping dad clean out the garage and find some treasures he failed to tell me about. Set of 3946074 L88/ZL1 Alum heads 118cc complete and ready to go with matched ported intake! Think he has had these heads since before I was born. There is no welds on them. Springs pockets were opened for the springs and heads ported. Valve springs are huge (700 lift cam) but can be changed out with the springs off my heads for my cam. Valves are 2.25/1.88?
Intake is a Holly strip dominator.

      With the Winters snowflake?

      Heads

Should have it all together on the 396 soon.

Looking for a set of 2" primary BBC headers for a 65 A-body Chevelle? Let me know.

No No No No No, Stay with a set of 781 or 049 oval port heads with an RPM Performer, also stay with 1 3/4" primary headers. I went through this with Glenn and he was righ on the big tube header thing with me. I switched from 2" to the smaller ones and the damn car picked up 2 tenths and almost 2 mph.

I would love to have those L88 heads for my 540 project but I am sure you're Dad has a soft spot for them.

Use what I have stated above along with a CC 282S cam and it will be a screamer. Is this still a 396 engine or a 454?

The exhaust port on the L88 heads are 2" so why restrict the flow to a 1 3/4"?
Will still be a pump gas 10:1 396ci motor.
Cleaning parts, fitting parts and with this early warm weather I am wanting to do some burnouts in the driveway.

All back together and out of the garage under her own power! Minus the hood and exhaust.

              Neighbors love the open headers!!

Another pic but the biggest change is a new converter. Went from a 1500 stall to a 3500 stall and WOW. Should be fun and still very simple. Still working on my carb tuning skills.

I have been out and playing with the new combo and am very impressed with it. Got about 60 to 70 miles on it. Slowly getting used to the 3500 stall converter on the street is a little rough but the track should be fun.

Little front end work. Ran the car for may years with a small block and big block springs. After putting the big block back in with steel heads the front end never really looked good. Looked like 4x4. And after changing out the heads with aluminum ones i had to do something.

                          before

                          after
Cut a coil out of the front. Drives a lot better.

Trying figure out the alignment. Have a slight + toe in on top after cutting a coil out of the front springs. After driving it around town a couple miles I think i have to remove shims? I remember adding shims because the outside of the tires were cupping and wearing but just after a couple trips to the gas station and Wagners the insides are just starting to cup? Am I right on removing shims? Or should I just take it in and have it done? Who do I take it to?
