  • Project 12 bolt & disc brakes

    Chevelle is going under the knife. Plans are:

    1. Remove the one wheel peel 10 bolt
    2. Replace with 3.42:1 geared 12 bolt axle
    3. Remove front & rear power drum brakes & replace with front Wilwood and rear stock style disc brakes & a new power booster/MC/lines/etc.
    4. New 17" wheels & new tires. I'm tired of the 14" and they won't fit anyway.
    5. Dial in suspension (may have to suck it up and ask Mr. HP for help!!)

    That's all. :)

    3.42? Did not know you could get that for a 12 bolt. I have 3.55 in the bird, Pretty good street gear.

      Now you've got me looking..

      I take it back, I bought a 3.55:1.

      I think you can get 3.42's though, not sure.

        Back in '04 3.55's and my old 454 ran 11.90 in the bird.

          Mine will run 10.intoawall@95mph. I'm confident of that number too.

            I know 1985 IROC Z's came with 3.42's, but don't know if thats a 12bolt or not.
            Life is too short to waste time and energy on hate.

              Yeah, from what I remember, if you're talking gears in the 3. range, the 12 bolts came with 3.08, 3.31 3.55, 3.73. The 4th Gen fbodies came with 3.42 if 6spd and 3.23 was the optional ratio for auto.

                  Oh, I know you can get ratios of just about any type from aftermarket vendors. I was only talking about what was oem. 3.42 wasn't a factory 12 bolt option.

                      Gotcha. Sorry, I misunderstood. I think I decided to go 3.55's so I could get my high 10.intoawall@95mph time.
