  • SBC Head Question

So I figure you guys are my best but on figuring out what heads these are... Aluminum, canted valve... only part number is SN 14242 stamped on the exhaust port side. I can post pics soon... Got them on my 406 just trying to get some data on them. They are currently off and possibly junk. My holley decided to spit a base plate bolt into #7... missed the valves didn't hurt the piston but left a print in the head. Pics tomorrow when its light out.

What gave it away was that I have seen them before. There are better heads out there and repairing a head can get spendy. I could sell you my Brodix heads they ran 10.80's n/a on my 406.

I would have someone pressure test it, check for flatness, and check the valve seats... Chances are it's just cosmetic damage, really won't affect performance. Just smooth out the rough surfaces where the bolt hit.

I personally would be more concerned about the rod and piston.

                  JMHO.

piston has tiny nick... rod looks fine( is there a way to check) and the bearing got a little chewed up crank is flawless. so i got a new bearing and smoothed the piston back out... it was less dented then the head. I would like brodix but I have these and can't really shell out any cash. going cheap as possible. as long as these heads can make me some decent power on spray i'll be happy... I'm looking at getting special rockers too as they seem to hit the V-covers... or i can just round them out a bit.

That style of head just never cought on and there are so many good cheap heads now on the market. I would dump them and get some vortecs. 500lbs. tq. on a 400 sb chevy and that's with the stock ones. Get a set, redo them and be some bucks up.

well I have these would rather just use them instead of the hassle of selling and rebuying some. I just want some flow numbers but am running short on luck on finding them.
