  • 71 Chevelle SBC to BBC

I am converting my Chevelle to a BBC that will be running e85. I'd like to get a new fuel tank with sump for it.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to whether to pony up for a pre-built tank or to buy a new stock tank (galvanized) and have a sump welded in somewhere? I can get a stock tank for about $200 ($250 galvanized) and a sump for about $60. Labor would be a couple hundred I'm guessing so I should be done for around $500, or I can buy a prebuilt stainless one for $900.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

            Dan, check these guys out:

I am guessing it may be more affordable to just get a new stock tank and have a sump welded in it.

BBC is in, still working on the sump setup, my friend is custom building one for me that should work nicely. Still have to wire MSD box and run fuel stuff but hopefully we'll have it running shortly!!

                Dan,
Have you tried anything on the paint yet?

Yep, tried throwing a BBC next to it to compare.

                  LOL!

Paint is fine, but if you're itchin' to test new product, I'll throw some meat on the grill and we can work our azzes off.

Update on this, finished the car a few weeks ago, got exhaust welded up last week (Thanks CRAZY), and was able to drive it to work 3 days in a row and then to Uni Friday night, CC on Saturday, and Uni Saturday night, and then to CC yesterday. Man I love this car now... BBC, e85, happy as a clam. It ran at 160* the whole time too. Corn FTW!

                      Dan,
Any hp numbers yet? It sure sounded nice when you drove by!

                      Smelled funny, though.

Not too many impressive numbers yet... still working out some kinks. :)

                        here's an impressive number: 5.

it's how many days in a row I drove it to work and to CC/Uni with 0 problems.
