Bobby and Steve's in Columbia Heights has 111 for around $5 a gallon. I was there 2 weeks ago to get it out of the pump.

Unsure of their hours though. :(

                  Answers to your questions:

                  1. What is the highest octane unleaded gas I can get?

~100 octane (R+M/2) is pretty much the limit for unleaded - unless it's heavily laced with something you don't want - like alcohols, or MTBE.

Keep in mind that not all fuels of a given octane will perform the same in a given application. There are a number of ways to make high-octane gasoline, and some ways are better than others. For starters, the difference between a given fuel's research & motor octane numbers is called sensitivity. Low sensitivity is a good thing. High sensitivity means that a fuel may have trouble suppressing knock under heavy loads. The fuel's sensitivity rating is especially important when running boost.

Also, octane distribution affects how an engine reacts to a given fuel blend. Different octane distributions amongst fuels of equal R+M/2 ratings can cause an engine to ping on one fuel, but not another - even though the advertised octane ratings are the same for the fuels in question.

                  2. Where are some locations to get race gas leaded or unleaded?

Over the years, I have seen a number of stations with race fuel scattered around the metro. Currently, I live in Coon Rapids. I fill up my GN with 100 octane unleaded at these stations:

                  Kisch Oil Company
                  17470 113th Ave North
                  Maple Grove, MN 55369
                  (763) 428-2887 - they have card readers - you can fill up 24/7 (may also have 110 leaded)

                  4 Seasons Automotive
                  9950 County Road 9
                  Plymouth, MN 55442
                  (763) 553-9113 - not open very late - call for hours (used to have 110 leaded, as well - not sure if they still do)

These guys used to have a variety of racing fuels - leaded & unleaded, but I haven't been there for some time:

Kath Auto Parts & Machine Shop
                  3096 Rice Street
                  Little Canada, MN 55113
Phone: (651)484-7229 - call for hours

Good luck on the hunt - hope this helps!

They're no longer a Shell station:

Oh yea... They changed it over and added a car wash recently. But, still have the 100 and 110 though.

Yes, hence why I posted that I go there to fill the GN with 100 unleaded.

I've seen the race fuel question asked so many times on the various auto boards.

The MSRA keeps a list of MN stations with non-oxy premium that is updated annually. You can download it here: Non-oxy premium in MN

It would be nice to have a list of MN stations with race fuel that the local boards could link to.

                          Ideas, anyone?
