Motley had a huge hand in creating the GNR music and look. Also, Nikki Sixx was asked to produce Appitite but turned it down because he was so strung out on junk he couldn't function! Traver
UYI were great albums, and they would have had more if they didn't self destruct. What I like about GNR is that they were a no nonsense (nonsense being dressing like girls) band that focused on music and not gimmics. I don't really get that from MC. and Slash is a god, if your a guitar player and look at what he's written you can see how good the stuff that he has put together over those albums is.

Oh ya.............listen to the self titled "Motley Crue" album from 1994 sang by Jon Corabi and then get back to me. It was way ahead of it's time! This is a very loud and in your face undiscovered album!!Traver

I would bet that anybody that put this disc on without knowing who the band was would go "who the hell is this"! and want more. Traver

Probably, but appetite is still better than anything the crue has released.

Also if you new anything about Motley the dressing like girls thing(which was a New York Dolls thing)was only for one album. Every album Motley did had a different look. Your right about it being a kind've a gimmick but it really did help sell albums. Theater of Pain was the only album they did like that and all your Poisons and Wingers and Warrants copied them at the time which spawned thousands of worthless lowlife Hairbands of that era.Too Fast For Love was their first album with Leather and whips, Shout at the Devil was their road warrior-Mad max look/satan look. Then Girls,Girls, Girls, which was the biker/Harley look. Then Theater/see above. Then came Dr. Feelgood was more of the gang/biker look again. After that they just did whatever because too many bands were trying to copy them. Anyways, just thought I would share that these guys were much more then a hairband and even Slash has publicly stated that Motley was the only band that was for real at the time out of LA that they respected and wanted to follow in their footsteps! Also you wouldn't even believe me if I told you all the songs out today from different artists that Nikki Sixx has written songs for!! Traver

Appitite is a kick ass album and I won't deny it. It was even voted #2 albums of all time. But do me a favor and go out and get the 94 album with Corabi on it and give it a listen. If you like heavier music it will not dissapoint!Traver

I know that all about slash and the early motley crue influence that gnr had, I read it in my signed copy of his autobiography. I just like the fact that gnr didn't really worry about appearance and just showed up to play. I'm moving to LA myself next summer to play rythym in a friends soon to be band, and would have to say that gnr along with motley crue are probably my biggest influence for doing this and the band will kind of have the same auro as gnr with the whole sunset strip sound. like i said, both bands are good, but I just prefer gnr

I never really knew about the connection between the two bands, but they are both IMO, the last of the decent rock bands to play.

I do know of the cross overs in bands like the Scorpions, UFO and MSG and then also the mix of DIO, Black sabbath, Deep purple, Rainbow, Ozzy etc. A friend one day pulled out this giant poster of how all of the members intertwined and then regrouped. It was a little complicated.
                    Link for DIO
                    Black Sabbath
                    Rainbow
                    Deep Purple

                    (Sorry, I digress at times.)

Ya, that's how I got into Motley Crue. When I was 12 years old I had a little one speaker boom box with a cassette player and I only had 2 cassettes......Motley Crue "Shout At The Devil" and Def Leppards "Pyromania" I played these over and over till they played no more!

That's cool 93Notch, I'd be very interested into hearing that band. I really think I missed my calling in music cause I love it so much. Played guitar since 2nd grade playing in church believe it or not, and then I just kind've gave up. Wish I would have stuck with it! Traver

Ya, I've been playing for a little over a year only, but i'm a fast learner. I'm working on learning as much theory as I can right now. But if we ever get our demo done I'll post up some of it for everyone to hear. I wish I would have started playing earlier, as I'm 18 right now, but better late then never I guess.

I think motley crue was at its best when John Corabi was singing, they just arent that good anymore

"After several months of writing sessions John Corabi joined Motley Crue. The resulting album was arguably the best recording that the band had ever produced, and the band felt strongly enough about the material to name the album Motley Crue. Songs like “Hooligan’s Holiday”, “Misunderstood”, “Smoke The Sky”, and “Power To The Music” were just a few of the incredible songs that the album consisted of, all of which were co-penned by John Corabi, music and lyrics. The album went platinum in the States, and enjoyed much bigger success elsewhere around the world. The sound of the new Crue was like nothing that had come before it. It gave us a glimpse of what bands like Godsmack and System Of The Down would usher in as “New Metal” close to seven years later. Surprisingly, after a tour of the States, the band retreated to the studio to begin writing a second album, which would never see a release"

I don't know where you got that from Tork but everything is right on the money except for one thing....................that album did see the light of day and it was called Generation Swine! The whole album was done and recorded with Corabi's vocals but after Electra seen the dissmal record sales and low concert attendances they told Nikki to sack 'Crab' ASAP. So Vince is brought back into the fold to rerecord Swine and the rest is history. That album went on to sell double platinum and the greatest hits to follow all followed suite except for New Tatoo.Traver
