Those are some neat stories guys....thanks for sharing.

It makes me realize how lucky I am to have been exposed to cars at a young age.

It makes me feel sorry for some of those who were exposed to drugs, gangbanging, violence, etc. when they were young.

Sorry for your loss KrisR. I was never fortunate to have a relationship with my dad. Mine passed away when I was about 2 1/2. Probably easier though for me not to remember mine than be real close as you were and lose him.

Thanks Glenn. Sorry you never got to know your dad. I'm glad that you're close with your kids though.

My dad and the Misgen family got me into cars. At one point when I was ~10 my dad owned a stock 82 Collector edition corvette, (that is now in a museum in Texas) a stock 64 impala coupe, a 55 bel air, (not stock) and a 71 El camino that he still owns (fully restored ~5 years ago) The Misgen family owns Misgen Auto Parts and I have been very good friends with their sons since kindergarden, we used to play bumper cars out at their yard when we were 12-13 years old if we could manage to find some running piles of shit. I also started driving when I was pretty young on our farm.

My first fast ride was in a 67 GTO, White with red interior. This was back in about 1970, 4.88's L60's 4 speed and a cammed up 400 with a 6pack.
3 gears sideways, wheelhopping the whole way. He hammered the shifter so hard the car felt like the dash would fall off.

Well for me I'd have to say my Dad first, he has always been good at anything that he has done, I think he is the Original "Jack of All Trades and a Master of a couple"

In the early 70's he owned a couple of Texaco Stations in the Columbia Heights area, one on Central Ave not too far from the Sun Drive in, and the other on University Ave. I was not quite old enough to hang around the shop much but got to see alot of cool cars back then, the era just kinda made you a car guy back then, if you had any kind of performance stuff around you.

My cousin had a Northstar Station down the road from my Dads place and one time my Dad and I went over there to get some things and it was around lunch time so my cousin took us for a ride in his car to go get some lunch, it was a 63 1/2 Ford Galixy 500 with a 427 and 4 speed, big cam and some other goodies, and it was the ride I would never forget, it sounded sooo cool and it had gobs of Power and the thing would go sideways when he would shift it.

I picked up alot from many people through the years, at a young age I worked at a Chevrolet Dealer and the car thing just got worse, the ZMan and his brother didn't help things much, they made learning things about fast cars even more interesting and fun,

I never was afraid to take on a challange because I knew there was always someone around to help me figure out how to do want I was doing, and because I didn't have a bunch of money to throw around, I fixed and modified everything myself and had a great time doing it.

Anyway, pretty cool story about the 427 '63 Galaxy 5hundud.

Well...it's good to know that my brother and I didn't fill your noggin with unusable info. lol

Yeh Z, He had the stations in late 60's and sold them in the 70's and went to work for KSTP after that as a Camara man and ended up running the Master Control position for the station, he retired from there in the mid 80's.

                    Cool!

You should have had him use his video mastery out at Northstar to make a few videos of your Camaro. Or...maybe he didn't know you were out there racing. lol

He knew I was going out there, he thought it was pretty neat.

He once took my Camaro down to the hardware store at Hi Lake Shopping Center (I parked it behind the other cars in the driveway and he could not get out, so he got my spare keys) when I came outside my car was gone so I stood there for a few minutes and figuring he had it, and here he came, down the alley, idling all lumpy, he pulled up where I had the car and shut it off, he got out and said to me, " you better check that thing out, it is idling awful rough" I told him, that is the way it's suppose to run, and he smiled at me  and went into the house.

He is a FORD guy, I always thought that was cool, and I think he enjoyed it too, he may admit it now, I'll have to ask him.
