  • Who gave you the car bug?

Just like the title says. Who inspired you to be involved with cars? There is usually ONE person you can give credit for givin you the bug.

Or...maybe it was the guy you just wanted to beat real bad that caused you to build a car just for that reason.

I have three brothers and all of them are responsible for where I am today. The older two had muscle cars back in the 60's which led to my next oldest bro building and racing cars. What the hell was I supposed to do? Take up knitting? lol

My mom. She had a couple of Rx7s when I was 2 and 5 years old. She was know to do a little "spirited" driving. She also had a subscription to Road & Track which I read a lot. She also taught me how to drive a manual transmission.

i taught myself how to tear shit appart, mom taught me how to put it back together, started with bikes. just learning how to ride bikes and of course it had trainig wheels, had em on for like 3 hours then i took them off.. then i took the rest of the bike apart and couldn't get it back together,(thats were mom came in) then i moved on to lawn mowers then motorcycles and ended up with a 68 f100 back when i lived in sturgis. was a fun truck, i learned to drive it when i was 10 or so, then dad blew motor and sold it. some day i'll get one again .. i loved that pos seafoam green truck.

I think I mostly got it from myself honestly. I obsessively read Auto Traders and car magazines through high school. I was the "someday I'm going to own a car like that" kind and I've been able to own a number of the cars that I wanted at that time:cool:
It certainly didn't come from anybody in my family and only a few of my friends before and during high school were into older cars at all

I can honestly say no one. I don't know what really caused it but my first ever speed part was a Performer intake. (boy did that little 305 have problems after that learning experience LOL) I still have it sitting on the lower shelf of my parts washer. I've just always loved speed in any sense. I had to run the fastest, jump the highest, fight the hardest. Now it's cars-a few of my old friends still call wanting me to start fighting again but then my whole demeanor gets aggressive-way over aggressive and i fight everything. So in a way my car keeps me from alot of other things that could be hazardous to me.

I grew up in the Seventies. They were everywhere, and it was more of a part of every day life. I don't think there was any one person.

My uncles from the farm they were constantly into some kind of car Demo derby stock car whatever they would let me drive all the time First time I drove the car myself without there help I think I was six. They had a 64 galaxie we were coming down the road to the farm almost to the driveway when one uncle jumped in the backseat and threw me up front and the other bailed out to the back seat too. Leaving me up front and in the passenger seat I didn't move until one yelled "you better drive cause if you hit the mailbox grandpa's gonna be pissed" I moved over and took her throught the ditch and into the yard. Grandpa came out to see what was going on with the car through the yard and yelled at me "Your damn lucky you didn't hit the mailbox" I thought to myself Your damn lucky I didn't hit the house. That was my first driving experience at 6 years old.

I've always really liked cars since I was a kid, but I never really had the actual bug (it must have been dormant.. lol) until after I started doing grunt work down at Headers By Ed. If you know Ed, he can TALK! Between all the different stories and insight he has, it got me very interested in cars in general. So now, a few years later, I'm infected with that friggin 'bug'.

I got it from my dad from riding in his '68 440 coronet as a kid, and watching him restore (and sell part way through) a '68 camaro convert, plus he owns an impound lot that I would hang out at as a kid, and I eventually dragged my first fox from there, an '81 hatch. I would have been into mopars like my dad, but there aren't really any affordable 90's and up mopars for a kid to 'rod, so I went with a ford
