Does this make any sense Bob?

    Shop Solutions: The Four-Way Slide
We often times trust our senses. I trust my sense of touch in what I call, The Four-Way Slide. The bounce test works, but this concentricity test tells you more. I slide the valve against the seat to the back, right, left, and back towards me. If the feel and movement is the same, the seat is very concentric to the valve guide. I manipulate the valve stem at the spring side with my other fingers and with practice it’s second nature.
I always check each one when I’m cutting the seats. If it isn’t good, I influence the spindle on the Serdi or VGS20 toward the side with the biggest slide while floating to the center the spindle. If it starts cutting on what you found was the high side of the slide, it’ll be better.

That's the reason you don't trust a 3 angle machine to do everything. One great cyl. guy told me he touches up every seat with a light stone cut then laps them in. Must work, all I have is the stone setup and helped me to run 10.92@120mph with some warmed over Vortec heads and a little Hyd. cam.

I don't know crap about porting heads. I do remember the 3-angle grind deal, though. That's what they taught us to do in auto mechanics school back in the late 70s. More recently, I seem to remember hearing about a 5-angle grind somewhere.

The look your heads give you when they see you approach with the die grinder!

Don't laugh, I did the same thing to my 062 Vortec heads and my car ran 10.90@120mph with stuff like that.

LOL! Yeah, I just saw that & thought it was funny. I've never ported a set of heads, but I can look at a porting job & kinda tell if it's shit or decent. Except some of the stuff that the NASCAR engineers do. That shit is fucking nuts!
