  • GM Experiencing An Increasing Amount Of V8 Engine Valve Lifter Issues

I know this is from 2021 but I was asked if I wanted to replace lifters last week on a 2021 Caddy Escalade, I told the guy that GM is taking care of these for people, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why GM is still using the same lifer as from 2008 and there have been a lot of problems with the bad AMF ones. I fixed my wife's truck by adding an AFM delete dongle to dis-able here's, no problems so far.

Yeah Bob, back in '21 they had a bunch on the 6.2s and in my opinion, GM sucked as to how they handled them. The mechanics said they were only allowed to replace the bank where they failed and within 10k miles the other side failed. Lotsa upset customers with GM handled it that way. The $80-$90k Yukon Denali owners were obviously pissed.

I know they had a bad batch of lifters between 9/1/2020 and 3/21/2021 and switched suppliers.

Yeah I own a '22 6.2 with 29k miles so I've been asking if the dealership mechanics if they see many coming through. The used car mgr said they had one recently with 62k. That engine needed to be replaced and the 6.2s were on backorder.

Looks like a hit or miss because Patrick had a '18 Denali with 6.2 and traded it after 140k with no issues. He has contracts down in the Chicago area and got up to 24 mpg with the cyl deactivation. Only used the GM Dexos oil at 4k intervals.

    The class action is pending.https://lemonlawexperts.com/how-to-j...ction-lawsuit/.

You may already know this Bob but changing lifters on an LS type motor is a pain in the ass, so careful about what you're getting youself into. You have to pull the heads to get to the lifters, buy new torque to yield bolts unless you go $$ ARP, use a thread chaser to clean the old sealant off the original bolt holes, also the bolt holes are blind and if you don't get all the coolant out, when you torque the bolts in, it'll crack the block, lifter trays and if the timing chain is loose, ya gotta pull the oil pump which means dealing with the tiny bolt holding the pickup tube to it, you'd need to drain the oil and drop the pan to make it easier to get to that little sucker. No comparison to the ease of doing lifters on a SBC

Ya, if I get the one Escalade I'm looking at I will for sure pull the engine to work on it in the garage, I'm too old to play around with doing it the hard way these days. Gut said it leaks oil also so that's another reason to pull it out.
