So...if Rock Falls adheres to what's in the 2024 NHRA rule book for 2014 and newer, why do you have a problem it?

Since we're in division 5, I chatted with a division 5 tech guy and he says the 2014 rules supersedes the general rules. Doesn't matter if division 3 or 5.

Here's what the tech director emailed me: The 9.0 and 150 is right can run to 9.0 and 149 without any updates stock with tires are dot it's under street rules not bracket rules.

NHRA Level 6C license is required for drivers running quicker than 9.99 (*6.39 eighth-mile) and slower than 9.00 (*5.65 eighth mile) or faster than 135 mph or slower than 150 mph). My friend showed me his 6C license. He has SFI jacket.

Also sent him the email about your conversation with the div 3 tech guy. Here's what he said: Yes he doesn't know what he is talking about. Asked the name of the div 3 guy you talked to.

I don't have a problem with it, but if your friend crashes it will be on their hands, just like the kid who was getting the last license pass at the Rock a few years ago that crashed when he forgot to put his visor down and the track personnel didn't catch it, that was a failure on Rock Falls track people for his death. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm never going to put anymore safety equipment in my car if people are allowed to run that quick and fast and I am not allowed to, so when I go I'll just run as hard with some NOS on my car in the future. If this Division 5 tech guy is that stupid to let guys run with hardly no safety stuff then it should apply to all not just a few. I am willing to be Al Corda would not let this happed if he still owned the track NHRA rules or not. Al always errored on the side of safety, always. As for who the retired Div 3 guy is, I can't give out his name just as I would not give your name to people on something that was a private matter. No biggie, I'm ok.

I called and left a voice message and also sent an email to the Division 5 tech director Nick Duty to clarify the rules they established in the 2024 rule book.
I will post his response so we can bury this once and for all.
Whatever he says, I'll accept. Hopefully you can too.
I'm having a hard time reading what's established and implying I'm not interpreting what's in the book.

        I asked these questions:
        1. Where in the NHRA rule book does it say the Demon 170 is banned?
        2. Do 2014 and newer cars that are allowed to run as quick as 9.00 and under 150 mph get overridden by other 2024 NHRA rules as whoever the retired division 3 guy said?
        3. Does any NHRA track have the right to override the rules in the 2024 NHRA rule book and tell a racer they can't race even if they are are in compliance?

That would be like saying hey you have a Snell 2020 helmet but I don't care what the NHRA rule book says---you have the correct helmet but you aren't racing today!

There has to be a reason as to why they feel a 2014 or newer car can run as quick as 9.00 and up to 150 without roll cage etc.

I wouldn't risk racing one at those speeds but I do know there's no comparison to the construction of my '71 Chevelle to a new car with crumple zones, air bags etc.

Reminds me of the two guys killed just driving down the street in St Cloud in a '70 SS El Camino and were hit head on by a Malibu. The guy in the Malibu unfortunately survived with a few scratches.
There's no question the Malibu's build technology was superior to the '70 and 2014 and newer cars are superior to the crappy Malibu involved in the deadly crash.
When he calls me back, I'll discuss it with him.

As far as not putting any safety equipment on your car that's required? Maybe you can get NHRA to change the rules?
I'm kinda puzzled that the rules for older car's safety equipment are in the rulebook for a reason but you don't want to follow them, while a 2014 or newer follows what's in the rulebook and shouldn't be allowed to race? Not getting the logic in that thought process..

        Nice debate.

I'll be the first to eat my words right here if I'm wrong.

Ya, I'll guess we'll have to agree to dis-agree here on this one.

Here' is the reply I got TODAY from the real NHRA Division 5 tech guy. The one who is in the rule book.

As I expected...none of the stuff mentioned from Al, or the so called retired Division 3 tech director, or any other comments were true.

I also talked to Scott Abramson who techs at BIR and he laughed and said people are not understanding the rulebook and my co worker's 170 definitely would be allowed to race there. He asked why wouldn't it? He sent me this private message after I told him what was said about the rules: Yes he doesn't know what he is talking about.

In my opinion...the retired division 3 guy is an idiot. It's a good thing he retired. If I were him, I wouldn't want my name posted in here either. Moron.

Like I've said time and time again--what counts is what's in the 2024 NHRA rulebook. Not real complicated.

So NHRA tracks telling people they can't run even though they are within NHRA rules is a bunch of bullshit. Makes absolutely no sense.

My Co-Worker showed me his NHRA 6C Street Legal license and he has the correct SFI jacket.

So as I've said before--there are late models you don't wanna line up against and my co worker's 170 is one of many.

            Here we go.....

            Glenn,

You are correct, 2014 and newer cars, including the Demon, can run as quick as 9.00 second in the quarter mile and as fast as 150 mph so long as they meet the Street Legal requirements. See attached. The racer does have to have the appropriate protective clothing and NHRA license. Also, some modifications could result in it no longer being considered Street Legal and would therefore result in it having to meet the Summit ET Bracket rules or the appropriate category rules. If you have any other questions, certainly let us know.

Damn....kinda glad I don't have to worry about that shit with my GN. Would be cool to have a really quick car, but running high 11s-low 12s gives me enough of an adrenaline rush. And it can still do 160+ MPH on a speed run without breathing very hard or coming anywhere near close to redline, 'cause it only turns ~3600 RPM @ 120 MPH in overdrive. I'm good with that!
