Sounds like Al's ok but his Camaro, truck and trailer are toast. His COPO car was pretty nice and quick.

Even though a lot of people hated Al I always got along with him. One time back in 1984 I ran my 1982 T/A in S/E and won the class. My good friend Tommy Thompson won King of the hill that day. We were the last 2 out of the track that day. Al came over to look at my new car and said "follow me guys into Menominee and I'll buy you pizza" Sure as hell he did just that and we BS'ed with him and ate pizza until about 8pm. Man that was a long day, Al was a pretty decent racer too.

So here's what happened. Al was driving in AZ when the bad dust storm came up last winter. A semi slammed on his brakes then the car in front of Al slammed into the semi. Of course Al couldn't react then slammed into that car. As he was sitting in his rig another driver came along and said "we have to get you out of here as there's more cars and trucks slamming into each other on the way. He helped pull Al from the rig and as the just got clear another semi came up and slammed into Al's trailer and ruined that and then another semi hit that one at full speed no stop. Al and the good Samaritan were slightly hurt from the hit but both are ok. Al's Truck, enclosed trailer with his COPO Camaro were not so lucky and everything was totaled. Al will live to race another day, glad he's ok.

Dust, fog or white out makes things scary. Years ago I was coming in from Dickinson ND and stopped at Holiday Inn Fargo. The next morning we decided to check out. The lady asked where we were going and I said Mpls. She said that wasn't a good idea and would save our room. I had the wife and my sons in the old Celebrity Eurosport wagon and the boys were maybe 5-8 yrs old. I thought how bad could it really be? Well I got maybe 1/4 mile onto 94 and it was a white out which I'd never been in. A semi passed me and I knew he couldn't see and was guessing, so I got off the next exit and saw a semi heading back west so I gladly followed him to the Holiday Inn. They said even if I had gotten much further, they closed 94 and I would have had to stay at a truck stop. There was a big dust storm in IL a few weeks ago and a pile up caused 7 people to get killed. Bad luck for Al but good luck to get outa that alive.
