I went to the slippery rock back in the '90s with the GN, but I haven't been there since.

My one race friend was there last night, he said a place looked like a covid lockdown, very few cars racing.

I sneaked over to check out the competition. Had to work, so I didn't have time to load up and bring the car. Didn't get there until after 5 and they finished a little after 7, so didn't see much for only being there a couple hours. Still glad I went. Air was around 1500ft. Very few cars. I saw a Foxbody (Bob's favorite) drag car that never made a full pass, a black '22 5.0 Mustang 10-speed auto was the quickest out there. He ran one 11.69 at 120. Went over to investigate and compliment him. He said he was from Burnsville and it didn't have many miles--and as Sloss and Kris R always said it was " stock". Then he said just drag radials and a tune. I looked inside and he had removed the passenger seat. Also, he was under it adjusting the rear shock settings--didn't know they came with adjustable shocks. He made a 2nd pass and it wheel hopped and ran 11.94, came back and adjusted the shocks and ran 11.70 at 119. I video'd him and when the car shifted to 2nd, it banged pretty hard (they don't shift like that "stock"). I mentioned it and he said his tuner changed the shift points and didn't recommend it for street use. When he left, he put his street tires back on, as his wife drove a car to carry his jack and extra tires. He also must not have had more than a gallon of gas in it because he was using a 5 gal can to add gas to get him to the station. He obviously was there to beat up on Chevs. Wish I had brought my car because with 1500 ft air and with my LS6 intake back on, I believe I would have been able to handle him. A newer Z06 Corvette ran low 12s and managed to get one 11.98 at 121, an LT1 6 gen Camaro ran low 12s, a 2nd gen Camaro ran 12.25-12.35, a GTI VW was running high 13s and even a BMW mini may have been low 14s to high 13s. Another guy ran his 2.7 Eco Boost F150 at high 14s at 89mph. So the guy with the 5.0 was liking his car's performance and rightfully so, and his friends made sure to let him know he was faster than the Chevs. He wouldn't do well in a bracket or even heads up race until he sharpens his reaction time, as the Camaro beat his 11.9 with a 12.3. Ford must have done a lot of upgrades to the exhaust because it didn't sound stock. Sounded good though.

11.7s from a tweaked '22 5L Stang on drag radials? Shit, I ran an 11.97 with my GN on 275/50/15 street tires. Gotta fuck with a new 5.0, just to match my 35 yr old GN with an internally stock engine & some bolt-ons? No wonder people call 'em 'Five Point Slow'!

Yeah, I have a problem with the Ford guys bragging about how formidable the Coyotes are. Although quick, they still have 4 cams and 32 valves, so technically they SHOULD be quicker. The 10 speed auto--due to 7.39 gear spread and a 4.70 1st gear makes them at least 4 tenths quicker than a 6 speed. In contrast--my street driven Camaro has a 2.66 1st gear, 1 cam with 16 valves but is quicker and faster. In other words--I wouldn't pull over to the shoulder in fear if I saw one.

Ooo, a 27.0 reaction time??? WTF is this guy doing sleeping?, I could have had fun out there with the pump gas 358 running 11.30 flat @118mph and beat up on all those late model cars. Now that I have some new parts to test we will see if I can get this "junk" SBC in the high 10's. Let me know if you go again Glenn, I would be happy to go out and help you at the track. I will be hitting the track in early Aug. this year.

Yeah, I don't know when I'll go out, but will let you know. I just hope when I do go, I can line up with the Coyote. While I agree that 11.30 may beat quite a few of the late model wannabes--and there are plenty of them out there, there are some late models that run quite a bit quicker than hi 10s to low 11s and they're daily drivers. Thank goodness many of the drivers don't have the experience that we do. Unfortunately--as far as cost is involved, how much money each car has or the dyno slip doesn't mean anything. It's who turns on the win light. It's run what you brung and hope you brung enough.

Ya, I got some 10 sec snacks for those late model cars for sure. Last year I ran a C8 Corvette 4 times with the Junk 400 in my car just playing around testing that day. I told him had I had that Vortec 406 in the car I would have toasted him like I did to that GT-R in 2019 and post it all over the net. He was not to amused by that.

At the final race last year at RF, we saw a GTR with drag radials running low 9s at 150. Had Minnesota plates and no roll bar and he drove it in. That's just one example of what's running around nowadays. I'm not a GTR fan, but went over and told him how crazy quick and fast his car was. I remember back in the mid 70s, having a low to mid 12 sec street car was rare (and mine was one of em), because some of the pure drag cars were in the 11s and maybe mid to high 10s.
A few years ago, I saw Big Daddy Don Garlits race his Swamp Rat II at Memphis and he ran mid 9s. I gave him a standing ovation after most of the spectators appeared to be unimpressed with mid 9s. Sadly, the street driven GTR I saw last year would bitchslap Big Daddy's Swamp Rat II!
Hell, my brother's Showdown Camaro was a terror at Northstar running a best of 11.58 at 119. Just about everybody was impressed with that car. He'd do 6k clutch dumps on slicks and shift at 7k. About 45 years later, my Camaro has run 11.55 at over 120 on 17" drag radials while being gentle with it on the starting line and I can drive it cross country. But with the advancement in technology, today's cars should be quicker. So, I can appreciate and respect cars that run 11s or 10s, but by today's standards, unfortunately there are late models that will make 11s and 10s look like not that big of a deal. Probably a good thing they don't frequent the drag strips up here like I've seen when I visited my old home tracks down in KY and MO, as it wouldn't be pretty.

It's pretty sad when out cars have to have a ton of safety stuff on our cars and there guys come in and run in the 9's with nothing said to them about having to be held to the same standards as the rest of us. Guess I should just buy a C8 Vette, won't need to spend a dime on safety stuff except for a helmet and I gots me one of them.

Yeah, I remember getting dressed down in tech at RF about trim rings on the Chevelle. Now guys are making pass after pass deep into the 9s with no safety equipment. They just need to be consistent on the rules.

I remember last year when the tech guy said something about my outdated belts, I reminded him that if a 9 sec Hellcat in the 10's doesn't need them neither do I. He said have a good race and away I went.
