  • Last Chance to Race at the Rock this Saturday

I heard it through the grape vine that some locals are going out to run this weekend in the good weather. Might venture out to spy on them. Air is supposed to be below sea level.

Wish we had this crisp air last weekend. Jonny took the Ty out today. https://www.facebook.com/messenger_m...frX18ihKd4g1iF

Sorry can't see Johnny, not on facebook. I see Auberg was out at the Rock but did not see him make any passes, broke maybe? My buddy called me and said he went 2 tenths and 2 mph better than last week. Next year there will be some hurt feeling when I get the car rolling late in the year.

Here's a run from today in crisp cool air. He let off right before the 1/4. The Dragy app was spot on at RF last weekend.

Hey Bob! Been a while since I’ve been on here. This link should work:

That really amazing 11.75 and when you listen to the truck go down the road is sounds like a sleeper. Nice run, What does that Draggy setup cost?

Thanks Bob! Now I’m tempted to see what it will do with a bigger turbo :) The app is free. Just need the box and a sturdy mount for your phone. I was skeptical at first but after comparing to timeslips at the track it appears to be the real deal.

Yeah, lots of modern phones have GPS, 3-axis motion detectors, and G-sensors built in. It's fairly easy to do an app that uses all three of 'em to emulate a real track measurement. I still have the GTech Pro that I put in the GN back in the day. It was one of the 1st accurate consumer-level performance computers that measured all of the usual stuff - 0-60, 1/4-mi, cornering Gs, etc.

Regarding below-SL air density - the one & only winter I drove the GN, it was absolutely AMAZING what that cold, dense air did for the torque! Was a double-whammy, with the big increase in air molecules, combined with the effect of that -20F air on the intercooler! :D

I guess the only down side using a big turbo is the lag time to get the engine to spool up. I need to find that video when I was at the rock last year when a guy had a truck like yours that was running in the low 10's. It was pretty impressive.

We had a Gtech when they were popular as well. I guess the main difference is that Dragy uses satellites. Which probably plays a large role as to why they’re able to calculate within 1/100th of a second. Which is crazy. I remember plugging the GTech into the Ty when it was a 13 second truck. Did a launch on an onramp and it told me I was making like 700tq and some outrageous hp number on the side. Obviously it couldn’t detect slope and other factors. Still a cool thing to have access to but I l’m not sure the GTech readings are even in the same stratosphere as Dragy. Just my opinion but I haven’t ran a GTech in several years so maybe they’ve made changes.

I asked a couple guys on the SyTy forums if they knew who was running that day. If I recall correctly I believe it was a turbo LS.
