  • What do you like most about your car(s)?

Is there something that you really like about your car or cars?

I like that there aren't too many like mine around in the surrounding area. I've seen a handful (less than 5) in the past few summers but most are kind of beat up.

I like the fact that mine is easy to work on, is the last in line F-body that you can easily run a carb. Parts are plentiful and is capable of performing decent on the road coarse or straight line.

            preferences for car characteristics

Comfort for old farts. Good tunes. Ability to play for more than a short term, (bottle full?) Range in terms of mpg and other considerations. Considerations such as fuel consumption become more of a concern if you are running a scarcer commodity such as high octane leaded racing fuel or even E-85 due to the more limited available filling stations. Considerations like street tires that when caught in the rain won't cause you to end up in the ditch if driving over 20 mph. Can you say HYDROPLANE? Considerations like the (Sleeper) effect, allowing you to slide by the cops without much notice. This also is fun when you have some performance, as one could guess. These are a few of the things that an old guy like me likes. Maybe my taste is not uncommon, although it seems like there is a preference for flashier stuff by the younger crowd.

The apparent cloaking device. Went whizzing by a cop at 100 mph on the crosstown last November and didn't get lit up. Apparently Buick installed stealth technology in Park Ave.'s and I haven't disabled it yet.

The body lines of my old mustang fastback, even though it isn't a show car it looks cool sittin in the parking lot. At least to me.

The body lines of pony cars don't lend themselves well to the cloaking effect.

                        Compromises

We all have different tastes and therefore different preferences. In our choices lie the compromises we are willing to make. To me the choice sits like a point on a line or graph. The two extreme choices are the opposing ends of the scale, and our point is somewhere in between. The closer to one extreme the further from the other. Versatility vs performance, it all boils down to where we are willing to place ourselves on that scale.

I like that it is easy to work on, easy to tune (carb ftw), and the fact that it used to be a 4 cylinder, so that I now know every nut and bolt on the damn thing from swapping it.

oh ya, and I also like the fact that it has a trunk
