  • Lost another racer

Berry Mack was one of the good guys. An outstanding man and a helluva racer. It's a sad day. My condolences to his wife and family.

One of the funniest times with Berry was when we brought a car down to Louisiana for his mom.Got it off the trailer and went to the DMV to get it registered. We were missing two things. One was some paperwork from Town and Country Dodge and also a DOT inspection. The really pretty blond behind the counter said she would take care of the dealer stuff while we went to get the inspection.Berry is driving,me up front and Mrs Mack in the back seat.We head off only to see that half the town is closed at noon time so we venture to the "otherside".Pull up in this gas station and the guy comes to my window and asked what he can do for me.I said you can help me by helping these folks get a DOT inspection. After an hour,we're back to the DOT only to find the paperwork from the dealer did not arrive.Turns out the gal didn't unplug the phone and plug into the fax.......lol.One line into the place. All got done and we're heading back to Mr.s Mack's place she's driving her new car.Berry's up front and I'm in back.Mrs Mack say's"You know,I'm going to bake that gal a sweet potato pie.You know how those people love sweet potato pies".Berry about two octaves up said"What do you mean"those people"Mrs. Mack looks in the mirror and Oh,I'm sorry...laughed all the way home.

I meet Barry around the same time I first met Glenn way back in the late 70's. Barry said "I know Glenn, too bad he's a Chevy guy".

Never had the pleasure of meeting him. Sounds like he was a great guy. How old was he?

Cool that he was also a musician!

The downside to gettin' older is that you get to see lots of your friends & acquaintances take their last ride....

Yeah, Berry was quite the guy. I learned quite a few interesting things about him yesterday. Didn't find out the story about the passing down of the white shoes though. As I look back, little did I know that seeing and talking to him at the Rock would be the last time.
