  • How's everyone holding up the the Hot Weather

How are you mugs all holding up with the 90+ temps and 70° dew points?, me I am doing well. I like the hot weather, just got done putting in the stock cam back in the Bird this week. The garage was hot but I did stay up late as it's much better then. Since the Doc has switched my statin meds I am doing better than I did since my early 30's.

I hate this hot & muggy crap! I'd be happy if it never got above the high 70s! That said - I'm doing just fine as long as the AC at home & in the car keeps on chuggin'.

I notice that the GTP's water temp gets up to ~210-220 F with the AC on in stop & go traffic. (Redline is a whopping 245 F! ) Once I'm moving at 20-30 MPH, it goes back down to the usual 185 F. Wonder if there's some crud between the condenser & radiator...

Weather not too much of a deal to me. Better than -15 deg. I like the late fall temps and crisp air the best though.

Ya those ponchos do get crap between the radiator and condenser Joel. I used to pull the radiator back and you could see a ring the size of the fan right on the front of the radiator. Cleaned it out and no more problems. Hell, in the got weather the hottest the Bird will run is 175° in the heat, not that I am complaining about it buy at the fall comes in the car may run too cool.

            Finally!

Bob - yeah, I had to get it cleaned out once before. Lots of trips up to Warroad & back had filled that area up with slow bugs & stuff. Guess it's time again.

            Reminds me of a story....

Back when I was teaching in Willmar, I took the GN up to Warroad a couple times a month during the summer. There's a back-road route that's great for stretching your ride's legs a bit. I often took the GN well-up into the triple-digits & held it there for awhile. The frame & suspension work I did back in the day makes it pretty stable up into the 140s, then the front-end starts to get light.

I had noticed a reduction in power, and I was starting to get some knock-retard just driving normally. Brought it to my usual shop. They called me & said I had to come up there. When I got there, they had the intercooler shroud & scoop removed. The intercooler fins were caked with baked frogs & salamanders! Some had hit so fast that the intercooler fins sliced & diced 'em!

They said they'd never seen anything like that before. Neither had I! After getting everything cleaned out, I put a wide-mesh screen over the scoop inlet. No more reptile stew!
