is it just the fact that almost everyone is mesmerized by a cell phone and texting all the time. Jez you would thing people would have better things to do with their time other than gossip texting. What a waste of life.

Yup. Seems like it's been getting a lot worse lately. Aside from the myriad of distracted drivers with their heads buried in their laps, I've noticed more & more pedestrians crossing busy intersections while they're texting - totally oblivious to what's going on around them.
It's like an addiction.
