So I am trying to rebuild my one T56 that I got screwed on and what a nightmare. I thought I had the rail linkage right only to find out that I moved the trans too much then popped it off the bell housing, bam broke a key on 3rd gear. So I decided to order a new input shaft as it's a little not so good and a new slider to make this trans shift nicer. Boy it's been 12 years since I did one of these things, they still suck.:sad smile::split:

Too bad about how he mislead you. You're a damn good wrench and will get it figured out.

Ya, when he was confronted about it on line he then blamed it on me. I said that I just put it in and the trans was grinding in 3rd 4th and reverse, all he said was too bad. The site I was on banned him until he makes good on the trans. Like that going to happen. I will get it fixed. I am pretty sure your original T56 just needs a fork and some shift pads, easy repair.

T-56's suck, cost me a fortune to fix mine when I broke it in the Cobra.

The old Muncie's were easy to rebuild.

New input shaft heating up now to drop in a race for the main shaft bearing.
Got all the rest of the stuff to finish it up.

I thought you had it apart before?

I did but found out it was in worse shape than I expected it to be in. I also found I need a 5/6 driven gear, but I got screwed on this whole deal.

I am bumping this up as today I changed the fluid in the T56 that resides in the Bird. I got rid of the Dextron II and replaced it with Pennzoil Synchromesh synthetic fluid. I took it out for a drive, no more 2nd gear grind, none, notta, not even a tiny bit. I was really surprised by this so if any of you have the 2nd gear blues try this stuff first, it works.
