  • Ford GT-350

To clear the air about Ford's so called superior technology on the new GT-350, here's my 2 cents:

As some of you may recall...I was recently awarded a trip to Riviera Maya Mexico. The trip was sponsored by BWI which is the company that builds suspension systems that are standard or optional equipment for select GM vehicles. Here's a link to the company which originated from GM's Delphi division over the last decade: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MagneRide. To clear the air--Ford purchased the technology from BWI for the new GT-350, so it really isn't Ford's technology--it's a system originally designed by GM. While in Mexico, I spoke with Dave Genord the chief engineer for suspensions at BWI and asked why they would sell primarily a GM system for Ford to add to the Mustang--obviously a competitor. He indicated that the GT-350 would be the only Ford model they agreed to sell the system to. The GT-500 and others would not get it. So--to clarify the FACTS--it's not Ford's so called superior technology that makes it perform so well--it's a system Ford didn't have the technology to design, so they bought it from BWI. In other words--if you can't beat em--join em.

Here's the recent dyno-road test between them.

Keep in mind they're testing the 2016 vs a heavier 2015 platform. If you view the video where they drag race them, listen to the sound of the surface as they walk on it. Sounds pretty sandy. Obviously the higher torque LS7 would have a difficult time launching vs the flat plane crank with nowhere near the torque.

I'll give the Ford props because it sounds nasty revving to 8200.
