  • 60th Aniversary of the SB Chevrolet

First 265 rolled off the line in 1955 and now it has been 60 years one of the best engines ever made. A lot are still going strong today.

I've only owned a few SBCs over the years. Back in the 70s, I owned a '67 & then a '68 Impala SS. Both had the 275HP 327. I owned a '68 Biscayne w/307 for a short time back in the early 80s. In the mid-80s, I bought an '80 Monte with the 267 gutless wonder. The 267 was by far the most anemic V8 I've ever owned. My very first car, a '63 Merc Meteor w/260 V8 & 2-speed auto could have probably towed the Monte uphill faster than it could go downhill under its own power. Hell, it got smoked off the stoplights by Vespa mopeds. The only major issues I ever had with my SBCs were rounded-off cam lobes on the 307 & 267, which happened at around 100k on both engines. Both 327s were very strong runners & remained so even when they got up into the 150k+ mile range.
