  • JR passed away

Just got a call from his wife. He passed away a couple days ago. She wanted me to notify his friends and will let me know when the burial etc. will be. She thought it could be at least a week.

Wow, this is so sad. I hate to see people in the car world pass on. RIP JR. We all did have some good time in the past decade, I first me him as he was a neighbor of mine and JR had a light blue 57 Chevy 150 2 door sedan with a 301 in it. The car was super fast in it's day running in the low 12's.

JR was always nice to me. Haven't seen him in a few years but I heard he was having issues with his heart. RIP JR.

Someone sent me this picture of JR. I have a lot of video of JR's antics. I wish I would have had the video camera when he got in the Pirates face down at porky's that night.

                Wow. Sad news indeed.

I met JR at Porky's back in the 90s. I had been hunting for a decent numbers-matching GN for many months, and was getting a bit frustrated - taking time off work a number of times to drive halfway across the country, only to find out that there was some major issue with the car. I mentioned my frustration to one of the regulars at Porky's, who gestured toward a tall guy dressed in black, and said - go talk to JR. I introduced myself & told him that I was trying to find a decent GN. He took me out for a run in his turbo Regal. That thing was quick! He gave me lots of pointers on what to watch out for when buying a GN, and told me to see Dennis Kirban if I didn't enjoy the hunt & just wanted to buy a solid car. So I gave him a call. Dennis is by far, the most honest car dealer I've ever done business with. The car was actually in better shape than the pics and the video of it starting & running suggested. JR also introduced me to Tom Shea, Stan, and the rest of the local GN club guys. I brought my GN to his detailing shop a few times & he did always did an impeccable job. JR was always willing to share his knowledge & help new club-members out, and he often hosted club meetings at his shop. Having our Sept. meeting & cookout at his place became an annual tradition, and he usually had a lift available for show & tell.

RIP JR. You will be missed....

JR was laid to rest today. Thr service was very touching and a bunch of people spoke about his life. Lot of car people as well as family were there, Kris R, Fast Eddy, Brian Bourley, Tom Shea, Mustangmatt, Dave Carlisle, John Haley, Glenn his son Johnny and myself. I hope all you guys that go to Car Craft this year remember JR as that was one of his favorite places to go every year. R.I.P. JR
