Junk starter on the race car

So I decided to get one of these fancy 3hp starters for the race car. Put the little thing in and the first couple of times it works good, so the next day I try to start the car (12 to 1 comp 406) and all it does is buck and is hard to start. The guy says to put in the shim which makes it worse and then he tells me I need a new block. F-him, I put the old GM starter back in and it cranks over like crazy. I was just trying to shave off one or two lbs. of the front end. Guy says he will ship me another one, Like I want to go through all that work again lesson learned, Use a GM starter. :laughing smile:

Sounds like the old Valco brand starters we used to sell at 10,000 auto.

Use it once, toss it out and then put in the spare one :laughing smile:
