  • Which flywheel is stronger

Which would you say is a more durable flywheel? 1045 steel or 4140 alloy?

A billet flywheel is suppost to be the strongest out there

      1045 is a medium-carbon steel. 4140 is a high-carbon chrome-moly alloy.

From what I've read, 4140 is slightly stronger in terms of tensile & yield strengths. The chrome provides good hardness penetration & the molybdenum gives it strength. It has better durability & wear characteristics than 1045. It also has superior resistance to stress at high temps. Not sure if that means it would make a better flywheel or not - assuming both are billet.
