That's funny, Way back in the late 70's a freind of mine had a chance to buy a 65 Malibu SS and asked if I would go look at it with him and I said sure. When we got there I saw a nice looking Bright yellow 65 SS but it had all the emblems in the wrong spots, Humm....So I looked closer and noticed the tail light section was funny looking too. The car had a 2 spoke stering wheel, 396 with a 4 speed. We both at that time thought who would put a 396 in 65 Malibu as they never offered them to the public. For me the tip off was the Malibu SS on the front fenders, So I said that has to be a fake But the guy said it was a factory car and he got it from his buddy who bught it brand new in 65. Now mind you I though I knew GM cars pretty well back then, HA HA boy was I a dummy. Sometime down the road, 1983 me thinks, Here comes a shiny new Super Chevy magazine to my door and what do you think was on the from cover?, Yup you guessed it, a Z16 chevelle. I was at a loss for words and told my wife that I f-ed up when I told Ray not to buy that malibu. I don't think I will ever get a chance to get something that rare again for a song.
Here is the ironic thing, The guy only wanted $700 bucks for the car. I guess Chevy put a lot of wierd stuff together back then. Oh well it was nice to see a real one anyway.

I remember seeing the neighbor sell his green '68 or '69 Hemi GTX in the early 80's and was asking about $5k. There was no way I could convince my Dad to loan me the money (I was about 14 or so). "That is too much money for and old car!" :sad smile:
The first person that test drove the car went for a spin and the car was never seen again. They let the person take the car without going along in the car, and the car was basically driven away and never found.
Arrrrrggggghhhhhh.

Back in the 80s,I was leaving Rock Falls,This is kind of hazy but some how I remember seeing a 65 Chevelle with 396 tags. Maroon and a dull paint, being a Mopar fan I still thought it was strange (cool). It was in spectator parking lot(dirt) and I was watching a stuck semi getting towed out.The semi had a trailer and looked fully loaded. I know about semis. After driving one 15,000 miles straight, then jumping in my Miata, its better than sex. But hey,I have been married for 38 years.Or is it 39 years,I'm not sure.Drag Racing, just you,me,and the tree!!
