  • Whats' your 2010 goal

Just like the title says What's the goal for your car for 2010?

I want to put the camaro in the 10's again with the little 9 to 1 350 and I am close.

Get the manual trans in the bird this year 4spd. then switch to the 6spd.

I guess this season I would like to work on how to tune and get it more consistent for brackets, then have all out tune incase a heads up race class would come up.

Just want to get out again hit some tracks, have some fun and not fix anything.

Nothing major for the GN this year. Just a few maintenance items:

Replace 3" d/p - current one is leaking pretty bad

      Replace heat-damaged upper A-arm bushing

Add heat shield to above A-arm

Once I'm done paying for my GTP, I plan to do some major work on the GN, as I'd like to go back to the track again - hopefully, in 2011 or 2012. My goal is to run consistent mid-11s without sacrificing streetability or comfort. As currently built, the trans & rear-end should reliably support low 11s and an occasional mid-10, which is more than adequate. Given the work I've already done, the mods below should reliably support mid-11s - assuming the driver is up to the task. Here's my general plan:

      1) Rebuild engine, using forged pistons. O-ring the heads.

      2) Dual-tank E85/gasoline fuel system + associated electronics.

      3) Better catback.

      4) Drag radials.

      5) Learn how to use the power I currently have, as the car should already be capable of high 11s with decent tires and proper technique.

      6) Work on achieving consistent mid-11s.

      7) Freshen up the exterior.

If I learn to drive it well enough to achieve consistent mid-11s, I would be very happy. I don't plan to take the numbers-matching engine, trans, and rear-end any further. I know that some are running low 11s and even 10s with the stock engine & stock trans w/shift kit + converter. However, I want to maintain the great reliability I have enjoyed thus far. If I decide to go further, I will build a separate engine + driveline and store the originals.

get my 89 gti solid enough to be my new daily, all new suspension/bushing/ steering parts, refresh engine. the 85 im driving is trying to die I think

I hope to get the 6 speed in the g-body, but I have said that for the last year and a half

i dunno where your getting those times from becouse when i was in minnesota i met a guy at porkys with a tta and his car traps over 120 and he claimed he could run 10s but i heard he never ran better than 11.8s. if he ran 11.8s i doubt you are going to run quicker than his tta. he had a big assed turbo and the best of everything. his name is j-r and his car is badass and am sure he would run you. i doubt you would come anywhere close to beating him. i still stay in touch with guys in minnesota and will make sure they tell him to look you up when it gets nice out for a race.

Heard from whom? I am familiar with JR's TTA, but I don't know what his best time is with it. I'll make a point to ask him at our next GN club meeting.

I've known JR and many of the other Turbo Buick guys around here for about 14 years, and I'm a member of the MGNTA club. I rode in JR's TR back in the day - it was impressive. In fact, JR is the reason I have the particular GN I own. He told me about Dennis Kirban, from Kirban Performance. I drove out there and bought my GN from Dennis. Been grinning ever since!

There are a number of guys in the national GN club that run high 11s with stock engines. Some of the guys who run E85 are doing even better. Plus, there are records of a few stock-blocks running high 10s, although not reliably (as I noted). So, it is doable. Don't believe me? Look it up on the national GN website.

Notice that I said that mine should already be capable of high 11s at step 5 on my list. You see, that's after doing steps 1, 2, 3, and 4. I never claimed that I could take it out, as is, and run a high 11 with it at all. If you understood what I wrote, this should be apparent to you. Furthermore, if you bothered to look up my car on this site, you would also be fully aware that mine is a numbers-matching, unrestored, rust-free, 188k mile GN. Why would I want to risk damaging the original block by racing it with 188k on it? That would be a very stupid thing to do.

Sounds like you're just trying to start an argument. Start one with someone else. I have much better things to do with my time. End of discussion.

                    Cheers.
