  • Eminent Domain Shuts Down Competition Engines.

Anyone know what their plans are now? :dunno:
I'd rather see a drive in restaurant, drive-in theater and a 1/8 mile track instead.

The owners of the five properties – the Mediterranean Cruise Cafe, Larson’s Automotive, Competition Engines, American Accounts, and U-Haul – fought the city in court over the use of eminent domain, disputing the city’s claim that the land was needed for a public purpose.
The $27 million redevelopment project is planned as a vibrant urban village with a mix of commercial retail space, office buildings, housing and open space. Developer Doran Pratt is at the helm of the project, which includes a transit station set to open in September 2009.
“We’re excited to move ahead with the project on the whole site, and we will continue to work diligently with affected businesses to help them find new locations,” Mayor Mike Maguire said. “Once plans are approved, the public can begin to look forward to attractive life-cycle housing opportunities, shops and offices, all in a high-quality, walkable neighborhood with a village feel.”

        Yeah, that's too bad.

Just goes to show everybody that the city can do what they want.

Of course the city of Richfield and Best Buy took land but it ended up costing them millions.

I guess it all boils down to how much money you want to spend to fight city hall.
