A couple guys I remember from MAS on Hennepin...
Don Bohencamp (sp) We called him the chicken man. Had a '56 wagon with a rubber chicken hangin on the tailgate he raced at Northstar.
Jim Durhaag(sp) became a pretty famous circle track guy. Used to tell us there was no money in drag racing. He obviously was a pretty smart guy. lol
There was another guy who drove a '69 Roadrunner and it had "national record holder" painted on the quarter panels. He treated me real good with parts for my Chevelle.

Yeah, I really liked the Auto Sports shop in Crystal. I bought my A-1 converter from them. I remember walking in one day and a guy behind the counter asked me if I owned an SS-454 Chevelle. I told him yes, and that he looked like he would be the type of guy who would own a 10 sec Camaro and he said he did. lol
It happened to be Dyno Dan Zrust.

How about Limefire automotive? He ran a speed shop out west, maybe Excelsior. He raced a lime green '66 or '67 Chevelle at Northstar. We called him Lenny Limefire.
Thanks to him I met my wife. She had a '69 RS/SS-396 Camaro with a/c and had bought some headers for it. I think she had given Lenny the keys to her car because he said they would install them. Well she was young and had lost his number and couldn't find her car. Another friend told us about her situation and the detective work began.
They found her car sitting at Limefire and brought it to my bros garage so he could do the install. We found out that Limefire had not only sold her the wrong headers, but also just let the car sit without calling her.

10,000 auto on26th and Central best place ever to get what you needed for the speed and them big M/T tires that wore out making a corner but they sur smoked good, did anyone use Mr. Tune on Cedar Ave also I had a lot of speed work done at Welle on 37th and Central I think they changed to MEBCO guys new there stuff. Champion Auto was good big wheel seems to have come in late in the game then leaned toward the rice burners, I can't think of his name but in later years he was in Excelsior and catered to the circle track boys.
