Was 537 HP at 6900 RPM and 448 TQ at 5500 RPM then bent a push rod and broke out the side of a lifter I have all the parts now and found all the pieces of the Broken lifter, didn't get a chance to jet carb and play with timing ,going back in a week or two, might try different intake like a Holley Strip Dominator or Victor Jr.,also it's only a 396.shootin for 550 HP

Damn good numbers for a 396. Is that with the Tunnel ram setup?

42° is about right for a 396, That's what mine used to like. Great numbers.

                        Those are great numbers.

I could never get any extra performance outa my 454 with timing over 36 total.

I am not sure why but the 396's like more timing. Same thing on my one 454 but the one I have now, Last time that one liked more timing. It does have flat top pistons and closed chambered heads. I know your 454 Glenn had the dome pistons and that could be the reason. I do know that if you were to add some 049 or 781's your 454 would make more power, But like you say, I do like to eat samiches when I go down the track.:rotfl:
