Why have a weak link? Granted, I'm switching a 7.5" 10-bolt for a 8.5" 10-bolt. But why leave it if you're going to want sticky tires and then have to worry about it?
I have seen 10 bolts go 1.4's w no problems and he is still driving it daily wo issues. My thoughts have changed on the issue a little. if you are gonna put stickys in it then I would change but if you are gonna keep the street rubber and spin the tires, that will save the rear. I have been told to do this and that to the rear in the vette but I have never had any issue and we have inspected it.

i have seen people run 9:00 E/T with a 7.5
by the way if your upgrading i will take the 7.5 from all of you
Waterbugs 10bolt isn't stock either, it has upgraded internals and the axle tubes are welded if I remember right. It was Jays old rearend.
For me at the time I had 600$ of rearend stuff sitting there to put in and my cousin popped the diff and it was so small I said put it back on ordered a 12bolt and sold the stuff to ramairws6 and he installed it 2x and now he has a nine inch. End of story.
i want stickies i wanna replace it because i don't have a trailer to run my car to the track and such. little different when you have a way of getting your car places. know what i'm sayin.
and if you're referring to waterbug still running a 10 bolt he's got an auto. i know i don't abuse it too much but i have talked to people that blew them stock either launching them hard from say 4+ grand or grabbin gears they blew them out. and yes i think it is ridiculous how much they cost
mines in its second stick car, it was behind my turbos for half of this year and now its behind a third gen with a 6.0l dumping it at 6k and dead hooking
It's like tripping over a $20 dollar bill to pick up a $5!! Just get a 9 inch in there and be done. All the money and headacehs I spent on that little 10 bolt still make me wanna pull my hair out to this day. Noise, noise, noise,..........and it wasn't the installer. They are just not made for the kind've power we put through them. A 9 inch is heavy and robs power but looking back on it I would do it all over again. It's just one less thing I have to worry about breaking!!Traver
i'll most likely go with whatever is cheaper but who knows
jollywrencher is working on the drawings for my fabricated nine that I am doing, I am going to pick up speedos stock rear tomorrow to make a fixture off of so hopefully within the next 2 months I will have a fixture and parts built to make a bolt in rear for your car, I will give you a hell of a deal on the housing and you can piece all the internals together as you get the funds, all I ask is you tell people where you got your rear when they ask.
